Israeli Apartheid Week: February 24th to March 3rd.

Did you catch SPJP's events for Israeli Apartheid Week? Here's what happened:

MOCK WALL

SPJP members built and displayed an Apartheid wall representative of the concrete separation wall that surrounds the West Bank in Palestine. On the wall is written facts about the Israeli occupation, for example the number of Israeli and Palestinian deaths since 2000, the number of Israeli settlements created since 1967 and a map of the loss of Palestinian land from 1946 until today. The wall was displayed next to the Whispering Wall outside of Newcomb hall in order to attract attention and raise awareness of the existence and the effects of the wall.

HUMMUS SALES

SPJP Exec sold packs of hummus and pita bread to raise money for the United Nations Relief and Work Agency for Palestinian Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), specifically for the Yarmouk refugee camp in Syria which is in desperate need of food parcels and humanitarian aid.
To learn more about the organization visit: http://www.unrwa.org/who-we-are.
The hummus sold was in compliance with rising the Boycotts, Divestments and Sanctions (BDS) movement to put economic pressure on Israel to follow international law in providing Palestinians freedom from occupation, equal rights and the right of refugees to return to their homes.

As described in the flyers below, every individual can take part in this movement by avoiding certain companies known to support Israel financially and/or in their policies violating Palestinian human rights and international law. Pictures below provide a list of a few of these companies as well as directions to make your own hummus!

"This year will mark 10 years since the International Court of Justice ruled that Israel's Apartheid wall and colonial settlements are illegal. Countries around the world are legally obliged to hold Israel accountable and not support the Israeli violations of international law."
